Star Choice is Working just Fine!

Well despite the Doom and Gloom Everything is working well so far!

We are at San Carlos and Our Regular ( dual sat, quad head) system is just fine!

I haven't tested the Triple Sat quad LNBF Yet but will if it is cool enough in the morning!

Until then may the Biggest Loser continue to thrill My Better Half!

  • We had Shaw Direct to travel with at first. Then after two years and paying for cable during the summer and having it suspended at reduced cost each winter - we had satellite installed at our house. There, we have three wires coming off a permanently mounted dish. We already had a dish for traveling with. We take two of the receivers with us for the winter. One is only a backup. The one left at home will still work fine, with the same package we always use.

If you have an RV one may get a roof mounted setup, fairly expensive, but very convenient. The dish folds down on the roof when not needed and traveling. You will be good for the Shaw Direct programs right into Mexico and possibly Central America, the only system with so flexible a footprint. One can use the tripod mounting system for the dish, with various helping gizmos to help direct the dish onto the satellite needed.
  • Hey All :
How does it work with Shaw Satellite system ?
    Hardware :
Do you remove your satellite and PVR/controller from your house system and install it in the RV, or, do you purchase a second satellite(perhaps smaller) & separate controller for the RV ?

What about the channel package ? Does it simply "work" in the U.S. without any additional "roaming" fees, this fee, that fee....? or, do you purchase a package in the U.S. ?

I don't have anything to go by other than our iPad which requires a new SIM chip and "plan" for each country we are travelling in.
I'd really like to get a system like that up and running...new to RV'ing.

    Thx !:)
  • For the people we meet, it is all about sports, and with the Winter Olympics coming this winter, in February, folks we know want to be ensconced somewhere where they can see it all. Mostly on their Shaw Direct receivers. Some time ago we listened Sirius radio while camped on the Bahia Tenacatita, Jalisco. It beat the short wave attempts by Radio Canada International, but the Canadian news all came out of, guess where, the Canadian Centre of the Universe, Toronto. Nothing about the west coast, very disappointing. We still carry Sirius with us, but its nice to get our old, local Global morning program on Shaw Direct satellite, the identical coverage we enjoy at home in the summer. Let's hope those birds fly actively for many more winter's of enjoyment.
  • D&D I believe that Explore Net will be the ones supporting the Services ! Whether that is actually Shaw in Sheeps Clothing remains to be seen!

I'm also pretty confident that something entirely different is not to far down the pipe!

What it is and how it will work is open to conjecture! The biggest hurdle may be Governments wanting to suppress in order to keep a piece of the pie!
  • You have to wonder if their days are numbered. i wonder how long those old satellites will be in service. We never did go for satelite TV. It gives us an opportunity to enjoy other things for 4 months a year. My wife is a TV addict at home, whereas I watch maybe an hour a day. I enjoy not having it available. Now Telus has remote programming and its coming to Shaw in a month or 2, you can program anything you do not want to miss back at home over the net for when you get back. TV is something I can definitely live without as long as I at least have satellite radio for news. Neither of us care about sports either. I don't even know the rules of hockey and I'm Canadian.
  • robattelake- "I see that Shaw is now promoting their Affiliation/partnership/aquisition of Exporenet! This will no doubt be the route to go sooner rather than later! TV and Internet...Go Anywhere system!"

Does this mean Shaw will be able to support service outside Canada for internet and TV??
  • Update!

The Upgraded Triple Sat/Quad LNBF and 600 Series PVR also works just fine and gets All Channels from the Two Old Birds! As expected the Newest Bird can not be received so the New HD Channels are not available!

Since We don't have Our Humungous HD TV in the Moho it really is of no consequence!

I see that Shaw is now promoting their Affiliation/partnership/aquisition of Exporenet! This will no doubt be the route to go sooner rather than later! TV and Internet...Go Anywhere system!
  • Our's is working just fine here in LDM but at the next RV park there is a couple who had switched to the new Sat dish in Canada and their receiver will not pick up down here.
  • Rob and Jean -great to see you SOB before Christmas. My peasant Star Choice has not been tested since Greenwood NS. We will be at our lot in Melaque tomorrow
