State Fair & Campgrounds

Considering attending the 2014 State Fair in Aug. Remember seeing pics of huge vegetables as a kid. For those who have been there, is it worth the time? Are there many campgrounds in that area? Would camping reservations be necessary?

Thanks,

  • My wife and I attended the opening day in 2010. One word, FABULOUS! It's not large, but it's the best I've ever been to. And, the setting and weather can't be beat.

The vegetables were huge, but we were told the large ones come towards the end of the fair. The Alaska State Fair has a lot of things you won't see anywhere else. One thing I remember was the lumberjack competition and show; lots of fun.

Since we flew up, I can't help on the camping. Our departure for driving up (first time) has been delayed, so now I'm going to try to attend the State Fair this year. I'm very interested in the camping situation, too.

Take the time, it's worth it.

  • Sorry I wasn't clear but I was referring to the Alaska State Fair, Palmer, AK. Enjoy fairs, but most particularly was interested in activities, exhibits that would make this unique Alaska that people enjoyed at previous Alaska State Fairs at Palmer.

  • Where is "there"? We have been to a number of state fairgrounds but not sure of which one you are talking about??? If you are talking about Palmer, AK, we haven't been there but they probably have a phone number or website you can refer to.
