Some rest areas are posted "NO overnight parking".
And the ones where that is not a problem, the "big rig" spaces are filled up with truck drivers who don't have a lot of other options and who will not be happy if they need to stop and RVs are taking up some of their spots. (I am not saying that is right or wrong but that's the way it IS.)
If you can't afford $40 to overnight at an RV park, maybe you can't afford the trip at all.
