FYI, the rest stop welcome center in NC right after the TN border on I-40 is CLOSED. They are rebuilding it. I am in Dandridge TN and that is about 3.5 hours from Nashvilleand there isn't much to choose from. There is a Walmart at exit 435 that may work for you. Turn right off the exit and its not far. After that exit you will be into the Pigeon River Gorge and its twisty and up hill until you reach Canton NC. It's pitch black at night through there. Another choice is Hartford TN with 2 campgrounds at exit 447. There is also a truck stop at the Wilton Springs exit 440.
