- CloudDriverExplorerJust to add one more campground option for the Badlands, there is a KOA in the little town of Interior just outside the Park boundary. They have trees and FHU so you can run the A/C. Great star viewing at night in the area.
- rbtgloveExplorerThere is a campground in Wall that's decent and within a short walk to Waee Drug, and other tourist trap stuff in Wall. The campground in the bBadlands doesn't have hook-ups or it didn't years ago. The D-1 MM Missile launch control center is interesting but then I did alerts there many years ago so not sure others would like it. Need to avoid the Sturgis Rally dates since there will be lots of people around from a week before to a week after.

I can do your route from Indy in my sleep. Been doing it since '78,from there to here or here to there.
We pass through southeast PA on our way west, so I feel qualified to respond. We usually take the PA Turnpike to I70 to Indianapolis then I74 to I80 then I29 to I90 across SD. IMO there isn't much to see except corn and soybean fields until you get to the Badlands, with the possible exception of the Corn Palace in Mitchel SD (1/2 hour stop at most).
The Badlands will be very hot in July and there is no shade. Most folks do the Badlands as a drive through with maybe a short hike of two. The small town of Wall is nearby and a visit to Wall Drug is good for an hour just to say you have been there.
Just 60 or so miles west of the Badlands is the Black Hills, with lots of touristy things to do. We have been there a few times, but not in the past 20 years as we would much rather be at Grand Teton and Yellowstone in northwest WY. - pauljExplorer II'Free Ice Water' - that's what built Wall Drugs.
