We are fulltimers and would not want to dispose of our food items when crossing the border unless they are prohibited items. We buy our meat in bulk and left them in the original, wrappers (I usually vacuum package) so they could see the country of origin in case they checked. We crossed back into the lower 48 at Osoyoos, BC/Oroville, WA and we were sort of searched by U.S. Customs. That area is a big fruit producing area and that is what they were looking for. They looked in the fridge and deemed everything fine and off we went. On that day, U.S. Customs was stopping every RV for a look in the fridge. We found the crossing agents professional and efficient. As long as one follows the rules, there is no difficulty.
