Tepic for Semana Santa

It seems like every year I play cheerleader for Los Pinos in Tepic, and here I go again!

We left home in Zihuatanejo the Wednesday before Easter, and went up the mountain to Patzcuaro. Villa Patzcuaro was FULL, with three of us dry camping. It's way too cold for us anyway, so we spent the afternoon in town, and on Thursday morning drove to Tepic.

Along the way, we lost the AC in the RV, and had a mud flap and bracket fly off doing body damage. (The RV is totally empty, weighs very little right now, and bounces like a ball on the bumpy roads.)

Los Pinos, with it's 10 spots and beautiful park like setting, was empty! We decided to stay long enough to troubleshoot the AC and get the body work done. Turns out that everyone in Tepic leaves for the 4 days before and including Easter. That's fine, the weather is lovely, the place is great (the dogs get to run like maniacs several times a day), grocery stores are open and plenty of great places still open to have lunch.

The AC turned out to be the thermostat, probably a big bump, and took out the circuit board. A new one was shipped to California today. The body work was done this afternoon, here in the park, and will be painted tomorrow morning. We also managed to get our INAPAM cards that we couldn't get in Guerrero.

We also found out that once we paid for 5 nights, that's tonight, we get two free!!!

This is a great park, great city with fabulous museums, climate and everything else going for it, and showers so nice that we use theirs instead of ours.

If you are like SO many other RV'ers we have run into this week leaving the beaches, consider Tepic! It's wonderful.
  • We are 27 with no tow but I'm following very closely in the Durango pulling a trailer. No hassles getting in, in all of our years here, have never had to ask anyone to clear the driveway. This morning we had to go to the body shop-left at 8:45, pulled back in at 11:45. No problems.

We both suspect that any issues with getting in and out of here are ( want to say this VERY nicely) exaggerated. We have seen 40 foot 5th wheels in here, and the the people claim it was no issue.

We all have to make our own choices as to what's safe and worth it.
  • We liked Los Pinas very much also
Just too hard to get in with 36 ft class A with toad......even unhooking before!
Parking lot always filled with cars...especially with a coffee shop right at arched entrance
  • Tepic and Xalapa used to be the two places in the entire country with the best drinking water.

I wonder how the restaurant at Hotel Bugamvillas is these days. 23-years ago I had one of the finest luxury meals I have ever eaten at this restaurant. Quail in Orange Sauce. Sweet & Sour orange soaked in Tequila. The setting is ethereal on the side of am arroyo with a huge oak tree shading it. Covered pedestrian bridge, paving tile courtyard. Had banana bushes climbing the walls with purple finger bananas. The rooms were every bit as nice as some of the 5-star Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta rooms. Cheating Mexico City movie and TV stars came here to tryst. This is where I saw today's Mexico's First Lady and friends dining at a table next to mine. The name "La Duena" kept popping up -- a Novela for 1995.

But a lot can happen in a near quarter-century

The suites are on the hill separate just south of the complex. My god, Angelica Rivera in her prime....two zeppelins in a dead heat.
