Thanksgiving week travel...

I see Thanksgiving is on Thursday the 28th this year...

I am wondering when things start to get hectic pertaining to travel
during the week leading up to Thanksgiving day.

The area is the corridor from Las Vegas to San Diego.

When do conditions return to normal after the 28th?

Thanks

It sounds like you'll be traveling from Vegas to S.D. Preceding the holiday weekend, holiday travel will be primarily headed towards Vegas. The freeway system is just barely able to handle daily commuters in So Cal, so avoid commuter times. There is a lot of construction right now in the San Bernardino area on 215. I'd avoid that.

Let me add the we are in Temecula visiting family. Decided to take a run to Bass Pro Shops in Rancho Cucamonga after brunch today. Traffic had pockets of stop and go in both directions on this mid-day trek. There is now construction on 15 in the general area of BPS that was adding to the congestion big time. Once again, anywhere where multiple freeways come together, expect traffic to slow.

  • I think Thanksgiving was on a Thursday last year too. Odd, isn't it?
  • You'll see added traffic beginning on Friday and Saturday before.... although the really bad traffic will be on Wednesday the 27th.

Monday after Thanksgiving will still see some added traffic, by Tuesday it will be back to normal.

If you can plan your travel so you hit San Diego, LA area and Las Vegas before 6AM, after 9AM and before 1PM, you'll be able to miss the commuter traffic.
