The best BLT & home fries in Alaska (and any where else too)
As I've traveled around the western part of the US, I just can't seem to find a great BLT or home fries so every time I'm home I have to go to Gwenies in Anchorage at least one time for a BLT.
Their BLT is a triple decker (3 layers of toast) make out of very good bread. I usually get white bread but they also use wheat and I think Sourdough bread. Lots and lots of bacon and of course lettuce and tomatoes.
The potatoes are what I call home fries though some might call them skillet fries. They slice up the potatoes and put them right on the griddle. Because they're making them fresh all day long, you can tell them how well done or crispy you want them cooked. These are by no means the the standard premade and frozen coated potatoes that all of the other restaurants in the world serve - these are real potatoes! And because they're always cooking the home fries, it only takes about 5 minutes to get your BLT.
If a BLT isn't for you, they also serve a good reindeer, eggs and home fries plate. And they have a full standard menu, but I don't know the last time I had anything except a BLT.
You might get a small Class C in their parking lot during a work day, but you're better off to take your toad.
And they're right across the street from the Harley shop for those needing a shirt. The easiest way to get there is down International Airport Way.
Have a good day and a great BLT.
