I do not understand why you would have a problem if we abide by your laws and do as they require. IMHO that is not trying to out smart anyone, and doing as the RCMP requires.
Plus, we don't come up to commit crimes, as you try to suggest.
To answer your last question, price out a ferry ride with a 40' motorhome.
Then call the tourist bureau of your Provence and tell them you hate US citizens coming up and spending money in your country.
