I read these threads and I post in response to those who feel the great need to find negative things to say about Mexico. Yes, we do know that people get killed in Mexico. We know about the cartels. We know about the drug wars. And it is reported time and again that most if not all the killings have to do with criminals killing criminals. There have been almost no reports of tourists having problems with crime in Mexico. The cartels fight with each other over the huge cash flow from the US for drugs the cartels participate in supplying. They are mostly border wars. They fight over routes to the US. Supply lines. Who controls which routes. Who gets to get the most of the US dollars from the drug users in the US. In another recent thread I posted the UN world homicide statistics based on murders per 100,000 population - called the rate. Mexico did not rank in the top 20. There are places in the US with higher murder rates than Mexico - no not the entire US but specific areas such as Detroit - and several others - rank right up there with the highest rates in the world. These things happen everywhere - not just Mexico. The difference is that in Mexico it is almost all cartel related and occurs in some very specific areas - such as Ciudad Juarez in the state of Chihuahua. If Detroit has a high rate does that mean the entire state of Michigan is a killing zone? If Los Angeles has a high rate (I don't know if they do) does that mean all of California is a killing zone? If parts of the US have high rates does that mean all the US should be avoided at all costs. People who do not like Mexico do not want anyone else to like Mexico so they come to this forum and post their nonsense. Why? I ask this all the time. What is your purpose for posting on this forum? It is pointless and senseless. Tell us something we don't know. I have been visiting Mexico (and other parts of the world) for well over 40 years - and have never experienced, witnessed, been near - any kind of the crime mentioned by those who insist we will all be putting our lives at risk by even going near Mexico. Then when those with a good deal of experience in Mexico say these folks do not know what they are talking about they then claim to have been to Mexico many times - and yet they prove there lack of knowledge about anything having anything to do with Mexico over and over again. Yes, there are murders. But not of any RVer or legitimate tourists I have ever heard of. Do dumb people hang out in known criminal nightclubs and hangouts at 2 in the morning and get shot by being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Possibly. But few and far between. Do we visit or hang out in such places? Not a chance. Not in Mexico or the US or anywhere else for that matter. There are always risks. Live underground if you choose to reduce exposure to risk. We choose to live and sometimes that involves some degree of risk. We can minimize the risk if we have half a brain. But we can also have a fully functional brain and do the research and easily visit most areas of Mexico with no more at risk than we might experience in any small town USA. If you choose to fear Mexico then that is your choice and welcome to it. But if you take the time to actually educate yourself you might learn something about Mexico and find that your fears are simply not justified. We do not spend time within several hundred miles of the border yet many others do and experience no problems. That is their level of risk that we choose not to experience. To each his own. But to visit a forum specifically about Mexico and South America with the sole purpose of posting negativity about those areas of the world you choose to disapprove of makes no sense to me. What is you point exactly? This forum is for those who are interested in Mexico and want to learn more. They want to get there information from those who might be able to provide valid information and not from someone who proves again and again that they know very little about the subject. Please go somewhere else to spread your hatred.
