Through Death Valley?

Is there a route from Pahrump Nevada that would end up on 395 in Ca? Around Bishop? And it needs to be motorhome friendly...
  • Thanks... just double checking. Sometimes maps don't indicate friendly big rig roads.

The climb out of Death Valley west is steep, very steep, not fun with my rig, I doubt it will be fun with yours.

I Think CA 190 is fine, tractor trailer delivery trucks use it all the time. And virtually all the traffic into the park enters thru CA 190 or CA 127 from Baker. By some peoples definition the only RV "friendly" road is a smooth 8 lane interstate.

Go to the CA dept of Transportation web site and they usually have some great photos of the roads. Just input the highway number.
  • If I remember right, the west side of Death Valley is alot steeper then the east side. Just saying.

  • Nevada 372 West out of Pahrump.
Nevada 372 becomes California 178 West.
CA 178 deadends at California 127, turn right and go north. You'll see an RV Park there.
Follow CA 127 to the intersection of CA 190. Look for the Armagosa Opera House. Turn Left.
Follow 190 all the way until CA 190 turns south towards Trona.
From here you can either continue straight onto California 136 or turn south continuing on Ca 190. Both routes will take you to US 395. California 136 brings you out near Lone Pine and Ca 190 brings you out at Coso Junction. Ca 190 has dips so it's a more exciting route..:W

Remember to fill up with FUEL in Pahrump. There is NO FUEL available along most of this route. Remember too, to stop at Badwater, (don't drink it) and Scottie's Castle.....Dennis
