To Rio Vista, CA from the north

Coming down I-5 from Oregon. Thinking of staying in Rio Vista to visit some friends in the East Bay area. Google maps shows a route to get off onto Hwy 113 at Woodland (before Sacramento) and take that all the way down to Hwy 12. Anyone familiar with 113? Is this a better/easier drive than just going through Sacramento down to Hwy 12?

  • Thanks for the additional input. Then I'll probably stick with I-5 to 12 and try to get through Sacramento not too late in the day if it's on a weekday.
  • We took 113 a few years ago from I-80, MH & Toad. 113 is narrow and was full of pot holes, I looked like a drunk trying to dodge the holes. Now I only take I-5 to 12. Maybe 113 has improved, but not a lot of highways in CA have improved, most have gotten worse. Dick
  • The old Midway Road bridge over Interstate 80 has been demolished. The new bridge is under construction. It won't be finished until next year, I think. You must detour to an alternate I80-crossing bridge at Meridian Road or Dixon Ave. if you use this route.

  • Thanks for sharing that route. Looks like a good alternative.
  • Take I-5 to 505. Get off on Midway, turn left (east). Follow all the way to 113 (stop sign). Turn Right (south). Follow all the way until it ends at the stop sign which is Hwy 12. Turn left (east) to Rio Vista. Used to drive all the time from Klamath Falls through Rio Vista heading to east bay, towing and not. Easiest and fastest route and avoids traffic getting close to Sacramento and backups on 80.
  • Driving my motorhome and tow car. Thank you for your input.

Are you towing or driving an RV? I would stay on I-5 to Lodi then turn west on 12 to Rio Vista. A little longer but will take less time. 113 is mostly 2 lane with traffic.
