Toronto to Lake George

We're planning a trip from Toronto to Lake George in August. We did it last year but want to take a little different route. We're thinking of crossing at 1,000 Islands Bridge then taking Interstate 81 to 411 to 26 to 12 to 8 to 28 to 9 to Interstate 87 south to Lake George.
I know it isn't the fastest route but would like to see some different scenery.
We're pulling a 5th wheel that is approximately 13' tall. Are there any low bridges or other obstacles that could be a concern?

Thanks
Bob

I haven't been on the first part of your route, but I have been on NY 8 many times (mostly in a car) and don't recall any low clearances or other difficulties that would keep an RV out. I have been over it a couple of times with my motorhome, which is around 11 feet tall. Gas (and other services) are relatively sparse.

The easternmost bit of route 8, out towards Hague, in particular is rather steep and curvy. It's a pretty road in general and mostly in decent repair. I've often cut over on 365 because I'm usually going east or west and it joins the thruway somewhat further along.

9 parallels the interstate, so you can also just continue on 9 rather than taking the interstate. It's rather built up through that area, though.

I'm not sure I've been on 28 through there.

Great information. Thanks. It looks like 365 will save me a few miles. I should be OK for fuel if I fill before I start from Swan Bay RV Park. It is only about 200 miles.

  • Last year we crossed at Ogdensburg then took 68 and 56 through Tupper Lake to Lake George. On the way home we took the route you suggested except for the Thousand Island Parkway. This year we were looking to stay at Swan Bay RV Park, then do the route I outlined above. We plan to visit Morrisburg on a future trip and explore the Thousand Islands Parkway.
Thanks very much for the information on the rodeo. My wife and I always wanted to go to a rodeo. Fortunately it's on when we're there.
    Appreciate the information.
    Thanks again.
  • Did you think of 401 to Gananogue and then the Thousand Islands Parkway to Brockville. Parkway runs along the St Lawrence. at Brockville reenter 401 to Cornwall Ontario and cross back into USA. Take 37 to Malone and then 22 to 87 you will then run along near Lake Champlain to Lake George.
btw south of Lake George is a nice rodeo.
