Toronto to West Coast - Canada West, USA East

Thought I would create a thread to track a upcoming trip.
On 23 July 2015 I set out from the Toronto area. Family and I have wedding to attend in Revelstoke BC on 8 August. Planning the trip in 4 weeks but have the 5th booked off for emergencies/detours.

Driving a 13 F150 FX4 SCREW. I have 40,700km on the truck today.
Towing a 2015 Starcraft 18BH.

Both were in for service (brakes, fluids and general inspection) last week and got a clean bill of health. Also got a 2" receiver welded up on the TT last week to accept a 4 bike carrier. Loaded up with Rhino hoses, 15G Sewer tote, extra hoses, fittings, tools and everything else I can think of.

Only bookings I have made was Dinosaur Prov. Park in Alberta for the nights of 2-3 Aug. Need to Be to Revelstoke on 5 Aug for rehearsals and family get togethers. Coming back we have Yellowstone booked on Aug 16-17.

We pull out this Thursday 23 July around 4:30PM From Toronto to Sudbury. Night one in Sudbury and spend a good chunk of the day at Science North.

As Internet allows I will try and share pictures details.

Any questions thoughts or ideas feel free to share. I am sharing for you guys but also as a journal for myself.

Cheers!

Mike

After pondering all the stuff we have in the trailer including a bike rack and 4 bikes I thought I better get the trailer to the scales before I go to far. Add that to the to-do list. Truck gets detailed today. So close. 2 more days!

Sick family... No work done today. We are suppose to pull out tomorrow but may have to delay...

  • Sorry folks. I had meant to update. Internet has been problematic. I did create a blog if you are so inclined

    The blog
  • Thanks for the words folks...

Fortunately the truck has a pretty large tank and is not to terribly thirsty. But the plan is to fill up daily. I also have a 20L Jerry Can strapped in the back for emergency purposes.

We are tight for time leaving Dinosaur. I would have liked to move it up a day but I left reservations to long. We will spend one day between Dino and Banff then onwards to Revelstoke. We have 2 Nights in Revelstoke and will be heading back towards Lake Louise one of the days depending on how everyone is feeling. It may also just be hiking and playing and a break from driving.

    2 Days until departure...
  • x2 on keeping your fuel tank topped up (in northern Ontario). Don't think that the gas/diesel maybe cheaper on the other side of town, next station is probably 100km down the road. Very interesting to see the changes in topography as you cross Canada.
We found the Mint Canada, to be very interesting. Maybe a 2 or 3 hour stop.

  • Have a great trip!
One thing I did notice though is that you'll be leaving Dinosaur National Park on the 4th, and have to be in Revelstoke on the 5th?
This means that you'll be zooming through the best scenery of the trip, with no time to stop, or take a trip up the Icefields Parkway!
As you'll be heading to Yellowstone afterwards, you'll be heading south after Revelstoke?
  • We drove through Northern Ontario 2 summers ago on our way to Winnipgeg. Make sure you drive on the top of your gas tank. We were surprised how far apart gas stations were in some areas between The Soo and T.Bay and no warning signs that the next gas was 100+ kms.

One park we have enjoyed a few times is Whiteshell P.P. on the Ontario/Manitoba border. It puts Ontario P.P to shame and is almost half the price. There are a couple of c.g.'s. Falcon Beach is our favorite and has v.g. amenities within walking distance of the site. Check it out if you have the time.

    Have a great trip.
