Travel from Reynosa via 40 W to 57 S to Queretaro

I have bought a (new to me) 42 foot Class A Foretravel Cummings 500 hp turbo and plan to make a trip to our home in Tequis in QRO. Has anyone made this trip recently (past 3 months or so) and has any one experienced any problems. I plan to overnight at Las Palmas Hotel (great secure RV parking by the way) in Matehuala for the night. Since I will be traveling alone I am a bit concerned about the checkpoint at, or near the turnoff to Tampico a little North of the San Pedro truck stop. Boarding parties always seem to have roving eyes and when several police / Aduana are aboard one really has to be observant about possible pilfering of goods from the coach. It is a piece of cake from a crew cab and trailer but I have not experienced this yet in the motorhome. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks one and all in advance.

  • Never plug in without a protectotor that protects against high & low voltage. On a caravan last year we had one blown satelite receiver, one blown convertor an one blown electonic clock due to bad power. The voltage was over 150V. I had warned everyone, but osme thoguh a cheaper surge pretector woudl be enough. those are th efolks who damaged their electronics.

Devices are made by Progressive, camco & surgeguard. If you spend less than $250 US you ar ebuying the wrong device.
  • Always carry a circuit tester (receptacle tester) and you will be able to determine for yourself which outlets are safe anywhere you go - especially in Mexico. They cost under $10 at any hardware home improvement store or wherever. Do not hook your RV up to an outlet that has a bad ground or reverse polarity. Get a dogbone (electrical adapter) so you can use the tester on 30amp or 50amp circuits too. Never plug your RV in without first checking the circuit you are about to connect to.
  • The problem at Las Palmas stems from them hooking up the light timer completlly wrong, I pointed that out to the mahagement, do not know if they fixed it or not, when the timer is off no power timer on poer to the out lets.

Try to park between the rooms and the bathroom, those outlets are good the side from the bathroom to the end of the patio is where the problem is.

  • We have not been that way since a year ago so probably not qualified to answer.

We have never had a problem with "pilfering" by any soldier, police, aduana, or anyone.

Our tests of electric at Las Palmas indicate very few properly wired outlets in the RV area. Bad grounds. Wrong polarity. Etc. In recent years we just stay at the San Pedro truck stop in the lighted area by the fuel pumps toward the dirt area to the north. Never a problem. If you do go to Las Palmas they will probably have to open the gate for a Foretravel - few motorhomes clear the main entrance.
  • We crossed at the Anzalduas bridge, the only time that someone was inside the RV was at the border, one joung soldier looked in some of the closets and that was it did not touch enything, las Palmas is a good place to over nite, there is also a place in San Miguel de Allende on the out skirts north side, hot water springs.

Stop at the front at Las Palmas and take a messureing tape to see if your rig makes it under the covered portico, they do have a side entrance fo tall rigs.

At the old check point at kilometro 21 there is no more inspection it has been closed for some time, there is a big hole where the topes used to be slow down, before San Luis Potosi there is a military check piont, all they asked us is where we were going and that was it.
