You will like Lake Powhatan NF as it is very nice.

From there, recommend you travel west I40 to Nasheville and then pick up the northern end of Natchez Trace Parkway to take down to Natchez. You can start on the northern end with a lunch at the Loveless Cafe.

Sorry can't help you with campgrounds because I prefer laid back rustic sites. However, if you can go one night without power which should be easy in the fall, check out Meriweather-Lewis Campground which is free right off of the Trace.
