US-23 and I-96 in Michigan

We're driving from Florida to Western Michigan and are considering picking up US-23 in Toledo and taking it to I-96 and then west to the lakeshore. A few years ago US-23 was a nightmare and there was lots of construction on I-96. (We're from MI originally and I know that the state has only two seasons--winter and construction--but some years it's worse then others.

We're towing a 24' TT and wonder if we should consider an alternate route. We'll be arriving in the area on a Tuesday around mid day.

Comments/suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
  • No issues with your route that I'm aware of other than a few small construction zones. It really depends on actual destination but you might want to look at getting off I-75 on 30 west just north of Lima, OH and then grab I-69 at Fort Wayne, IN. I-69 to Marshall, MI to I-94 and west to Kalamazoo. Connect to 131 north to connect with another west bound road to actual destination. Little more jogging around but might save miles and all good road. Randu
  • If you are going to follow Randu suggestion, you should consider taking 33 in Wapakoneta West to Ft. Wayne. There is significant road construction in Lima. It is only about 7 miles of construction, but there are at least 3 accidents a day. 33 is shorter and very good road.
  • How about I90 to South Bend, and US31 to the shore?

Sorry, but I have to highly recommend AGAINST I80/90. Expensive and the bridge aprons are atrocious.
