I drove this route last summer. Compared to some other NC driving is was pretty tame. One good uphill grade between Wilksboro and Boone. No problems at all on 321 from Boone into TN. Was a pretty drive with very little traffic. Road was a little skinny on some stretches but overall it wasn't a bad drive at all.
