Glad you made it out of these big bad mountains. :) Sounds like you had a good trip. Thanks for reporting back. Wish more would do so.

Next time, purchase the 'Mountain Directory for Truckers and RVers - Western Edition. It's very helpful. We used it all the time for a refresher course. We loved driving the mountains. Ya'all come back.

Berthoud Pass, on rt 40 was what we were all trying to get you around, While not straight after driving from West Yellowstone to Vernal it was easy.

Thanks for letting us know the Route you took, will help the instructions on the next person stuck in the Hills of Colorado.

Next trip plan some time in Colorado if is just full of adventure.

just left vernal 10 days ago.took 40 thru steamboat springs to 14 to walden then on to laramie and 80. good climb out of steamboat springs short decline to 14 on fairly level till just before laramie then a couple miles of decent with a couple of curves. over all a very easy easy route.

While in Vernal, take some time to go out to Dinosaur National Monument. It only takes a couple of hours to go and see. They have built a building over the side of a hill and exposed a LOT of bones.

Also, if you like petroglyphs, go to McConkie Ranch. It isn't far from town and has some really great art. I've seen a lot in Utah and that is one of my favorite spots because there is a lot in one area.

We were just on I70 to Denver on a Tuesday 2 weeks ago. The construction was down to 1 lane a few times. Added 1 hour to the drive time. We were leaving Steamboat Springs and they had a sign saying there were major construction delays on 9 south of Kremmling.

For the easiest route we would also go to US191 and then US491 to Gallup.

But often we would take the more scenic route. But living in New Mexico in mountains we are used to the curves and grades.
