I grew up in Everett and I am fairly familiar with both roads. I-90 is a better road for time, but then you will have to fight your way up I-5 to Everett. Highway 2 is a good road and you only have to deal with the congestion between Everett and Marysville.
If you do decide to take I-90, use the 405 Bypass rather than take your rig through downtown Seattle.
