- wrushingExplorerThanks to all who encouraged us to take Hwy 2. It was SO beautiful... Would not have wanted to miss it! Little rough in a couple of spots, but we'll worth it! We're in Wenatchee now so smooth sailing from here to Coeur d'alene!
- jamesuExplorerA previous poster recommended the North Cascades Highway (WA-20). A good recommendation if you have plenty of time to do it rather than going to Spokane all the way on US-2. Goes right through the NP and you can connect with US-2 at Wilbur which is south of Grand Coulee Dam.
Seeing that you are from Alabama you might not get up here too often...might as well see the best of the Cascades. In my opinion the N. Cascades Hwy is way more scenic than Stevens Pass over the mountains. The farther north the better. It might add a day or two to your trip to Spokane if you take your time, but I think it's worth it. - jamesuExplorerYou can read my past posts concerning US-2 (Stevens Pass) so I won't go into all of that here, but only to say that nearly all the way on the west side and over the Cascades the posted speed is 60 mph and for safety's sake it should only be 50/55 depending upon the terrain, the corners, and the deterioration of the pavement at any particular point up to the Summit. US-2 from Everett to Gold Bar has many mega crashes with loss of life...a very dangerous highway. Do not be intimidated by those who try to "push" you. Go the pace you are comfortable with and you'll be fine. Been driving that road since I was in HS. Don't believe newcomers who tell you it's a piece of cake because it is safe.
Heading east over Stevens Pass is very scenic and the route between Waterville, north of Wenatchee, to Spokane is one of my favorite drives through Eastern Washington. A side jog at Coulee City up to Grand Coulee Dam is worth it. - There's some narrow spots on the west side of Stevens Pass. Lots of fatal wrecks have occurred.
I quit doing the pass when I had my 21' Desert Fox Toy hauler. A few years I ago I tried it again with my truck camper and haven't done it since because the road was so rough on the west side. From Stevens Pass east all the way to Spokane, it's a decent drive though. I hated the section from Monroe all the way to the bottom of the west side of Stevens Pass.
A good friend of mine has a 35' 5th wheel toy hauler. He also won't go Highway 2 when we camp at Lake Wenatchee. He will go the long way over Snoqaulmie, then Blewett, then backtrack on Hwy 2 to get to Lake Wenatchee. - ScottGNomadBeautiful drive and one of our favorites - enjoy!
- wrushingExplorerAwesome, thanks everyone. I truly appreciate your feedback!
- romoreExplorer IIIt is a beautiful drive, take your time and enjoy the scenery. Traffic is heavy from I-5 through St Mary's but gets easier once past that. Wenatchee to Spokane is scenic high desert ,Grand Coulee dam is definitely worth a visit.
- Tom_BarbExplorerHighway 20 is also doable with a 35' 5ver slower, steeper and very beautiful. it's called the North Cascade highway. and probably the prettiest highway in the lower 48. WE do it with the 40'coach towing.

What is Hwy 2 in Washington State like pulling an RV? From Everett to Spokane. I know it is scenic, but is it doable pulling a 35-ft 5th wheel? Thanks for any assistance!
WE like it better than 90, and it is shorter. It's a 2 lane road for the most part, but in good repair, Everett to Start up is the worse part. The up hill climb doesn't really start until you hit the switch back turn at the bottom of the pass.
On the east side the Tumwater canyon is beautiful, and the town of Leavenworth is a very special place.
The pass is steeper, but shorter. and you do go thru the little towns along the way.
90 you must cope with Seattle traffic, 405/90 yucky. - Tom_BarbExplorer
