What can I bring into Mexico Food / wine / liquor / meat

I would make sure I had any medications that might be necessary if you are staying for an extended time. On one of our trips I was looking for over the counter meds. All the packaging was in Spanish and I had difficulty deciding what to buy. Whatever it was that I bought turned out to be for children.
This was in a smaller town and I could not find someone who understood English well enough to assist me.
