What is the condition of 99 in CA?
We drove it from around Bakersfield north to Yosemite area and it was horrible! We're headed to Oregon from Las Vegas this year and there appear to be more campgrounds along there than I-5 north of B...

I thought I had posted this but I guess it didn't go through. We are starting in Las Vegas and plan to end up in Washington then across the top of the country (with maybe a couple of side trips into Canada) to New York to visit my daughter who has ALS.
We have to stay away from altitudes above 4k because I have emphysema and don't do well up there. Plus we DO like the seafood we hope to find along 101.
I'm sort of stuck in Washington, though, because I'm not sure how big a rig can go on the ferries across the sounds/water. Decisions, decisions! But I sure am glad there's a board where I can go (here) to get knowledgable information. Thanks all!
