What should I stock up on?

If you can find shelf stable milk at the dollar tree get 5-6 QTS only a dollar stays on shelf up to a year and is pasteurized 2% milk tastes great

You'll be able to buy any essentials on the road. Any consumables including can foods and dry supplies that will sail though the border can save a few $.

Nearly everything you eat at home will be available on your route. However, will probably not be the brand you are used to.

Every thing is available through Canada. Meat and cheese you will find cost 2 to 3 times what you are used to. Bring it with you and plan on eating a lot of pasta and rice. Because of the cost of meat the Canadians do an excellent job with sausage. Fast food joints are pricey also.

We take non-perishables across and pick questionable items up across the border.
I would take what seems reasonable from the list and make sure when they ask for specific items you say whether or not you have them. If you are the lucky traveler, some items may go in the large garbage can!
We are leaving to go north next Wednesday from eastern WA. We plan on picking up items at Walmart in Kamloops, BC.

You really don't need to stock up on anything especially on the Alaska Highway. You will find Walmarts and grocery stores along the way. Chilliwack and Kamloops have Safeways, Walmarts, etc. Prices are not that much higher with the favorable exchange rate there is right now. Coming back on the Cassiar there are far fewer towns though.

And don't neglect BC as you hurry to Alaska. After many trips and living in Alaska for many years, I have come to really appreciate BC.

Wife is loading up on paper products, tp, towels, paper plates. Household meds like cold and alegery meds, aspirin, pepto bismal, stuff like bug spray, antibacterial ointments.

For those that watch their pennies...there are some stores that are cheaper overall than others. If you shop Safeway, you are at the high end. Same will be said for Save-On Foods. Look for Wholesale Foods. Also for Super-Value. These mentioned stores are common in the larger communities in BC. If you are buying meat..go to the meat area and look for the Price Reduced section. It will save you between 30 and 50% on what they have on the non-reduced shelf. There is a great Wholesale store in Smithers. On the right, as you roll thru town.

I make no apologies to those that drink or smoke. Our taxes are much higher on both items and you will be paying more for your fave beverage. But, for those that are just doing the best that they can..kinda stretching out the bucks, in BC, you will want to make your last shop in Smithers for fresh anything. There is a good store in Whitehorse for the pricing on fresh stuff along with all other products.

If you need truck or car parts in BC, watch for NAPA and Lordco. If you need something and the store doesn't have it, have it ordered and sent to another store up the road where you'll be in a couple days.

Canadian Tire is our big box, get most likely IT, there. Also good for auto stuff like oil and wipers, etc. COSTCO's last BC store is in Prince George. There are Wal-Marts all over but not all carry meat and veggies.
