You can't always "stick around urban centers". In Mexico, living within 20-30 minutes from a half-decent hospital is - in most scenarios - unrealistic.
In Canada - probably so, but people seeking tranquility end up in remote places hours from a hospital. Even then, a hospital in Canada - no matter how small - will be equipped according to standards, and those are pretty high.
In Mexico, if you happen to live within 20-30 minutes from a hospital, don't expect much. I remember a story of a guy having heart attack in Ensenada. Big city, average public hospital. He made it to the hospital, alright. They stabilized him, gave some pills... and then nothing. He was laying there, awake, in pain, nurse sleeping on the ward. Nobody was going to do anything. In the morning he told his wife to take him to San Diego. 2.5 hours bumpy ride to the border - very good toll highway, but you know those Mex ambulances. Transfer at the border, another few hours to the US hospital. He lived.
But this is Ensenada, a big city. No retiree would want to live there. The guy was there because was running a business - restaurant. I guess couldn't have enough dough in his remaining years of life.
Q: Moisheh - where in Hermosillo would you go, if you lived in Kino at that time? your 1st choice, 2nd? Assuming a catastrophic insurance coverage, on one hand, and the risk to pay $$$ on the other hand, in the event that hospital would find nothing serious and discharge you next morning?
