- TEOExplorerWe use our bank card extensively for pesos in Mexico and I have been very happy with the return. Also, my bank rebates any ATM fee charged in Mexico. That being said, I get some pesos in Laredo because I don't want to get into Mexico with nothing and you can't be absolutely certain that an ATM will work at the particular time you're there.
Paul - Wm_ElliotExplorerLaredo Texas has currency exchanges near the border, visible from I-35. I personally wouldn't enter Mexico without some pesos in my wallet. Once in Mexico I also suggest using ATMs at banks. The least expensive and safest way to get pesos in Mexico is to use a credit union debit card after first notifying the credit union that you will be using the debit card in Mexico. Without that notification the card will most likely get shut down after you use it in Mexico.
- briansueExplorerI believe the Pemex about a mile south of the crossing has an ATM - we prefer to use ATMs located at banks for safety and security reasons but sometimes we have to use the freestanding ones. Bank ATMs give a better rate and if anything goes wrong you can go in the bank to try to correct any problems - you can't do that with freestanding machines.
- MikeJinCOExplorer III believe that the big Pemex's on the toll road to Monterrey have ATM's, I think we stopped there once. Otherwise I'd just stop in downtown Laredo(TX) and get some changed. You will get better rates on the ATM's. We took the free road the last time and it was only about 10 minutes slower due to traffic at the south end. You do have to make the left turn before you get into the one town, they don't like large rigs.
