100 days till snowbirding........ maybe not

Generally each year we take off in the first week of Nov. +/-. We normally travel to LA or to Az then back to Fl for the winter. We have a Jacuzzi a double slab for the TT, a shed and a flower patch. We hook up and do cards, pegs and jokers, bingo, pot lucks, dances and entertainment. All of which are not done without social distancing.

We always laugh because at the card games many bring in candies and other treats then after a week of two they complain the cards are sticky. Point being it is a giant love fest with fun and great times. And a great place to get sick.

BUT ....................... this year we are not in the hugs mode, we do the mask thing and don't linger at the stores and stay at our cottage up north as the virus tolls are very, very low. So Florida looks like a bust. We are being told by many in our park that they are not going to come and the Canadians are not allowed to come.

What is your winter plans looking like?
  • The feels like temp in my area of Fl has been in the triple digits for weeks, mid 90s for the high yet Florida has been seeing higher numbers of COVID-19. If I were a snowbird the wise thing for me would to be stay home, why take a chance. Is spending one winter in my home state instead of Florida worth my life? Most snowbirds that I know are in the high risk zone because of age and health issues. Just not worth it to me.
  • We will be heading south as usual in late October. WA virus isn't much different than AZ and we don't need to be in close contact with anybody when we are traveling unless we choose to. We can go a long time with the 100 gallon fresh water and equivalent holding tanks. We aren't close to anyone when fueling either. We would rather be distancing from others in warm weather than in cold weather.

  • FL don't look like the promised land right now. We are heading to Pigeon Forge, TN for a week then to Hendersonville in the mountains of NC. Saw this morning that WV had highest % in the country right now. Sure have us pinned down for now but best to stay safe
  • We own our own Rv lot in Key largo and every year can't wait to get down there. Right now unless they come out with a vaccine our plans are to stay right in our home in the mountains of NC.
I heat with wood, and have a good seasoned supply that will take me through the winter.
