A boater could spend an entire day at the museum in Clayton, NY. Amazing place.
I recommended the same thing on this question on another website. This museum is really cool and I never owned a boat. Those old mahogany boats are almost like artwork.
Very true. You don't need to be a boater to appreciate the place. Anyone who has an appreciation for fine furniture would enjoy the joinery in those boats.
Likewise any motorhead whould marvel at them. - tsetsafExplorer IIIState parks IMHO are the best choices Check them out

- Linda_VA2ExplorerWe really enjoyed Association Island. Beautiful views and nice facilities.
- zigzagrvExplorerAssociation Island is great. Located on lake Ontario with full hookups situated so you are facing the lake. Not cheap, but very nice. Only downside is that is far from Alex Bay and the St. Lawrence river attractions.
1000 Islands campground is strategically located just a few miles from Alex Bay and Clayton, and about a mile off I81. It is next to Grass Point state park. Basic campground with full hookups, but no pool. However, they have an ice cream/general store in front with some of the best ice cream around. - GreydennyhawkExplorerCloser to Alex bay is Grass Point SP, smaller park but nice, clean and easy if you want to launch a boat and fish!
- WNYBobExplorer2X on Wellesley Island SP, we stayed there also late July last year. Wonderful time. To see Boldt go down river on the island to the Boldt Yacht house, nice tour and a free shuttle to the castle on Hart Island.
- CloudDriverExplorerWe stayed 3 nights at Wellesley Island State Park mid-June 2015. They have one loop with FHU. No pool, but they have a beach on the St. Lawrence river for swimming.
Don't miss Boldt Castle when you are there! It's amazing what can be done when money is absolutely no object.
