Thanks everyone for the good recomendations. I now have several good places to check out. Our trip up to New York will be our first long adventure after my retirement. Again thanks

You will need to check out the Finger Lakes region - some good wineries ,one good distillery and local breweries.

Watkins Glen gorge is a nice visit.

If you like racing plan a trip to Watkins Glen Race track - there are days that you can drive you car/truck on the track for a fee.

Association island is nice... it's in the Henderson Harbor area. Haven't been there since they converted to a KOA. We stayed there for a few nights a couple years ago. Another place we stayed was Merry Knoll in Clayton which was convenient to many of the tourist attractions. Great folks running the place.
If you go in August, be sure to check out the antique boat show at the museum in Clayton.
  • If you want full hook up in WELLESLEY ISLAND STATE PARK - Fox area - we like Fox Area 2 site 44. Easy to back in and nice sized site - big open area behind the camper. Make reservations early - the full hookup fills up fast. H area has some nice big sites - has electric. We have Kayaks so we like to stay at Wellesley Island SP.

we have stayed at Cedar Point - Wellesley is better better though. Our friends like Kring Point SP - length of rig can make it tough to get into spots. Another likes Keewaydin SP.

If you are going to be in the area for awhile - Higley Flow State Park - between the St Lawrence and the Adirondacks(35 miles east of Ogdensburg and 35 miles west of Tupper Lake).

On the Canadian side we stayed at Riverside/Cedar (probably 15 years ago)- visited The Upper Canada Village (http://www.uppercanadavillage.com/index.cfm/en/home/)

    Parks on the Canadian side:

  • There are a lot of state parks in the area ...are you looking for full hook ups? If you're okay with electric I'd look into Wellsley Island State Park ...it's near Alexandria Bay so close to a lot of the places you might be interested in visiting. There is a campground that recently changed to a KOA - Association Island. That's in the Henderson/Sackets Harbor area so a little bit farther maybe from Boldt Castle and the Candadian border but also on the water in a pretty spot ....
