Campground near Newport, Rhode Island

We stayed in R.I. and had only two campgrounds to choose from. Only water and electric in both but they were very clean and had a dump station.
Normandy Farms is south of Boston and is a true R.V. resort and worth every penny they charge. Tour buses come to the resort for day trips. We took the Boston tour and Cape Cod Each was an all day.Others were also available.
Normandy Farms was on H.G.TV ten best campground in the U.S. it was number three

Peter's Pond is very nice. High percentage of seasonal sites, but many transient sites that are very nice. Just be aware that you will be on the Cape Cod side of the Cape Cod Canal, so will have to do battle with the traffic to get back and forth from the mainland. Fri/Sat/Sun traffic can be a real bear in the summer.

We stayed at Peter's Pond years ago. Can't remember the details, but I do remember we were happy with it.

I was going to stay at the other one, but I thought the extra prices they charged were too high. They charge $12.00 for extra persons, which I thought was a bit steep. But, I thought oh well, I will pay $100.00 a night to park my camper for a few nights. I know we will be in a special area and sometimes you have to pay for that privilege. Thanks, the flea market sounds fantastic. I think we will check out some of the other sites too. I am getting so excited. Cannot wait for summer to get here.

The first thing that comes to mind is Brimfield. It's a small town in Massachusetts that transforms into the largest antique yard inNew England every July, attracting sellers from all over, and buyers who stay and look at the miles of bargains. Sturbridge Village is nice, and you are not too far from LL Bean (on your way there be sure to stop at the liquor store in New Hampshire-everyone does). Mystic Seaport is another place that is unique to the area. If you are into gambling, the largest and third largest casinos in the world are in Eastern CT-Foxwoods and Monhegan Sun (they also have some sporting events, shows, and places to eat). For shopping, there are multiple outlets, but the most famous is at the beginning of the Maine Turnpike in Kittery, and another one in New Hampshire in North Conway, as well as one in CT in Clinton Crossing, and another in Westbrook (for those rainy days).

Thanks everyone. We have decided to stay at a campground I found on line in Falmouth, Boston. The name of it is Cape Cod campresort and cabins. The pictures of the campground and area look really pretty. The reviews are positive. I figured we could use it as a central hub and make day trips. We planned on going into Massachusetts to do some sightseeing also. Being from Texas, it is hard for me to realize you can drive from state to state in an hour. Ha. I wanted to find really nice places to stay on this trip, as this is my mother-in-laws intro into camping. If anyone has any suggestions into must see sights in the Newport, RI/Massachusetts area, I would love to hear them. We are planning a day in Newport, Boston, Plimouth Plantation, and Cape Cod National Seashore area. Once again, thanks so much for all the input.

+1 for Aces High... place is a real class act and is super clean.

I have never stayed in Wawaloam Campground but a co-worker of my wife used to stay there often with a large motorhome. They really liked the campground. The campground is a bit of a ride (and a bridge toll, $2.00 per axle) to Newport. Staying in CT would be a much longer ride to Newport.

Sorry this is only second hand info about the campground.

edit to add: I hope you are planning to visit Newport with your toad, a motor home would be a challenge downtown.
