I have never stayed in Wawaloam Campground but a co-worker of my wife used to stay there often with a large motorhome. They really liked the campground. The campground is a bit of a ride (and a bridge toll, $2.00 per axle) to Newport. Staying in CT would be a much longer ride to Newport.
Sorry this is only second hand info about the campground.
edit to add: I hope you are planning to visit Newport with your toad, a motor home would be a challenge downtown.
