2017 Solar Eclipse

Will stay home from work that day due to all the people expected in Columbia, SC and enjoy the view from my house which is in the direct path.

interactive eclipse map If you click on the location of where you will be on Aug. 21 the map will give you the percentage the sun will be obscured and times.

Here is a link to Hartwell COE parks. It has all of the campgrounds listed and you can see pictures of individual sites at each. Our favorite is Oconee Point. All of the parks are top notch and offer water and electric with dump stations. At Oconee Point all sites are lake front. PM me if you have questions and I will try to help.

Or it will at least give you good odds on what the weather/cloud cover will be like for your location.

P.S. I just finalized our camping reservations. We'll be in the Oregon Cascades just south of Mt. Hood. We will see 1 minute, 10 seconds of totality.

If you don't have reservations yet, you better hurry!!!!

And traffic will probably be solid gridlock (hours and hours) in lots of places on Monday morning. You need to be in place by Sunday night at the latest.

The town where I would like to be has 6000 people. They are expecting 25000 more people in town for the eclipse. And they are charging $300 for a three night minimum for dry camping in a farm field.

COE= Corps of Engineer campground. Most we have visited and camped are very good.

IN Franklin, NC the Great Outdoor Resort is a very nice campground to stay at. Outside of Clemson, SC is Crooked Creek in West Union, SC, is right on a lake. There is a good COE campground in Clemson, Twin Lakes. There are a couple more COE's in the area, and all are top notch. Just checking, there appears to be quite a few spots at the COE's right now as the reservation date just opened up.

I just fired off some additional E-mails to the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce, Rexburg County Fairgrounds and the University. It seems you can reserve viewing area's at the University in Rexburg.

Have to say thanks for lighting the fire under my Butt (comments about crowds and traffic) to get me a bit more prepared for what may be ahead of us in terms of the Eclipse!
