The big MH's and RV's that have built-in generators seem to operate on a different standard than the portable setup generators do.

I think it's unfair to blame the 'big rigs'. Generators are used by all kinds of RVs and if you're in campgrounds that allows generators and posts the generator times, I would guess the generator times are closely monitored by the hosts or managers. That's what we find, anyway. You, yourself are running the gen for 3 hrs at a time so don't just blame 'big rigs'.
By the way, we have solar power and we never watch t.v., we use a stovetop coffee perculator and toast our bread in a fry pan - AND, we're a 'big rig'. We like quiet but if we're in a campground that allows generators, we accept it otherwise we could always go off by ourselves which we do, too. So please don't put the blame on 'big rigs'. In fact, about the only time we run our generator is to 'exercise' it so it doesn't get gummed up. We would have gladly bought the motorhome without a generator, if that would have been possible. :)
