I've been camping from the 60s and aside from a hum on the wind while out in the boonies, had never heard a generator other than our own. Then again a lot has changed.
Until this rig I never needed a charged battery. The most we used was a light or a fan. Now a rig will drain your battery just sitting there.
My folks pup and TT didn't have AC or a microwave, if you were hot you took a dip, fanned yourself in the shade and had a cool drink. Electronic entertainment was limited to a tiny radio that ran off of a 9v.
Now we have big screens, satellites, DVDs, stereos, etc. When we are cold on goes a furnace, hot it's AC. Forget about cooking over a fire, just nuke it in a microwave and be done with it.
None of it is bad except it takes power and the easiest way to provide that power if to pull the string on a generator. It's not the only way, just the easiest.
