Acadia Campground Help

Need some help with a campground selection for those that have been there. I'm in the beginning phases of planning a trip for next June to Acadia National Park. I have never been, so most of my campground selections are going off of internet searches and reviews. So far I really like Schoodic Woods Campground. Very spacious and private from what I can tell. Only problem so far, it looks like it is easily over an hours drive to Bar Harbor where we would like to eat out the 4 days we are there. Are there any other campgrounds in the area that are like Schoodic Woods? I do not mind not having full hook-ups but if I'm going to be camping on top of someone, I would prefer full hook-ups. Also, what are your favorite places to eat at while in the area? Thanks for the help.
  • Timberland Acres is where we stayed last year. 16 miles to BH, 15 miles to the park. Couple miles from town (food, Wal-Mart, rest, etc). Full hook -ups.paved roads, lots of seasonals, but l, many open sites. We drove thru both KOA's and not for us. IMO, too small, very close together. Think it's the Narrows that's right by the airport, seemed nice, but the dust from the roads thru the park was atrocious. Downtown BH is very tight and parking is at a premium.

I would split my time between Blackwoods and Seawall CG's which are in the NP . Seawall is easier to get into in the summer without reservations and is near the ocean. The water is clean and cold. There is a warm fresh water lake with a beach nearby which is nice also. Several places nearby to buy lobster which we cooked at the campsite along with mussels we collected along the rocky shoreline. The GK's enjoyed the trip.
