We are planning a trip to Acadia Nat'l Park this fall and want to stop somewhere in the Adirondacks. If you have been there do you have any information on attractions, things not to miss, and where you would recommend camping. Thanks in advance. Last year you gave us amazing information about the U.P. of Michigan.

Born and grew up in the Adirondacks and we still spend most Summers there. Some of our favorite places are Lake George for a lunch cruise on the Lake as well as a Six Flags Theme Park or visit a real sanctioned rodeo nearby in Lake Luzerne. Fort Ticonderoga is a stop to experience one of the finest fort restorations in America. Then there is Lake Placid home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics where you can visit the venues and watch our young hopefuls in training (watching the Summer ski Jumping is a hoot!) That's just a few ideas depending on what you like to do -there is so much more to do and see in the Adirondack Mountains. There are many campgrounds in the Adirondacks and several very good ones around Lake George from which you can take day trips in all directions.

If you like museums don't miss the Adirondack Museum. Lots of history about the area and they have a complete Pullman car inside. Lake Placid is great, there are also a few forts in the area that you can tour. Have fun. If you like covered bridges there are several on the way to Maine.

There are many state campgrounds in the Adirondacks.Lake George RV park is pricey but very highly rated and regarded—I've never stayed there myself. There are others in the area, too.IMHO Six Flags Great Escape is unexceptional; it's not a bad amusement park, but Six Flags has bit by bit removed a good bit of what made the pre-six-flags Great Escape neat (and, to be fair, added a bunch of rides and Six Flags stuff). Admission and parking seem to me rather steep for what the park offers.Just across the lake, Burlington's North Beach park has a pretty nice campground that's reasonably priced, as well as a lovely beach. (This is a city park.)
