Advice on Campgrounds near Beach - Panhandle FL

Mid Jan - late Feb. Looking for campgrounds that might have activities. Somewhere we could stay a couple weeks and move on to somewhere else. Prefer close enough to the beach to walk. We have been further south Tampa area -- too much traffic.

May drive over to the Jacksonville and St. Augustine Area, too, any campgrounds fit this?

Thanks
  • You do realize that, with the exception of a hurricane hitting, that time frame has absolutely the worst weather in North Florida, from the panhandle to Jacksonville. Jacksonville is expecting 35º lows this weekend and that is just for starters. It only goes downhill from there until March.

But if you insist, Hanna Park is nice in Jacksonville and Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine is also great.
  • Panama City Beach is great. Navarre is also good but both are way too cold in Jan & Feb.
  • Consider Gulf Shores AL area and Pensacola FL area.......
also Navarre FL...........I can advise you on these
    areas..........try rvparkreviews.com for a start...
  • Yes, understand it may be colder than south Florida in Jan/Feb. But, not as cold as my area :)

Not very familar with Gulf Shores, AL area.
  • If you go to Gulf Shores (a great place) try to get into the state park. Its right off the beach, huge paved spots, all amenities, etc.
  • There are a number of state parks across the panhandle that would fit that description
  • Love to stay at the state parks when we can. Thanks for the info.
  • We love visiting Geronimo RV Resort on Malibar Beach (Destin). It's a small campground (30ish sites), but a new campground. No pool, but 2 blocks to the beautiful beach so having a pool isn't an issue for us.

    1. Concrete pad and patio
    2. Back-in sites and a few new pull-through sites.
    3. Landscaped sites
    4. Excellent FREE WiFi
    5. Exceptionally clean laundry facilities
    6. Friendly visitors
    7. Office manager, Nicole is a sweetheart and so very friendly.
    8. The cleanest RV park we have EVER visited.
    9. They accept Passport America for 5 nights (not in Feb or March)

If you go there, say HI to Nicole from us (she will know us by our name since we've written a blog about the park).

We usually visit the park on our way down to Florida in November or early December. A lovely place. I highly recommend it!
