Allegany State Park - NY

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking for some feedback on Allegany State Park in NY. We are planning on staying there this June in our 24' C Class MH. Does anyone know how far Quaker Run and Redhouse campgrounds are from each other? I can't seem to find any information on that. We don't have a toad, but we do take our bikes, we like to leave the MH parked and bike everywhere.I just want to know if there is trails to bike from one campground to another without taking the road. I understand there are different things to see at each end of the park, we would love to take it all in while we are there.

Thank you in advance for your input.

  • Quaker is about. 15 miles from the Red House CG. It would be a major bike trip and all day journey unless you are a pro. Quaker has nicer sites but is far removed from activities and many of the better trails. RH is closer to the administeTion building which is beautiful Tudor style WPA construction. Allegany is 100 sq miles and the 3rd largest state park in the US.
  • Book your sites early as they book quickly. Try to use google earth to help you book your site. Have not camped there with the motor home yet but we had a very tight site to back into with the trailer. Satellite dish had a hard time locking on due to trees.
  • We are very familiar with this park as we rented cabins there often as well as camped there many times.

The two camping areas are quite a distance from each other. You could bike it but it would be on the state park roads. If you have mountain bikes you could call the park to see if the trails between the campgrounds allow bikes.

It is a beautiful state park with good swimming in the Red House area and lots of wonderful trails to hike. Make sure you bring all needed supplies because it is a drive back into Salamanca for groceries.
