Can anyone comment on which tour company is the best for touring Antelope Canyon?Trip Advisor seems to think that Chief Tosie might be the best.Also we were thinking about going at 5:00 PM to try and avoid some of the crowds. Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks,Morley

The best pictures and viewing inside the canyon are around noon. There are several nice touring companies but you will be hustled along. If you take a photographer's tour you'll have more time. Enjoy!

When we went they had two tours available...the standard tour and the photographer tour. The photo tour was about half again in price but well worth the extra money as it was longer and our guide knew just where in the slots we needed to be at what time for the best photos. I took two different photo tours of the Upper Antelope Canyon & a self guided tour of the Lower Antelope Canyon in 2012. The guided tours were with Carol Bigthumb's Adventurous Antelope Canyon. I was very pleased with both guides. You must carry a DSLR or SLR camera to take an unguided tour of the Lower Canyon.At the guide's suggestions, an early morning trip through the Lower Canyon, followed by a noon trip through the Upper Canyon provides the best opportunities for photos. I have some notes at the first link that may be helpful if you plan to take pictures.You might want to check if you are going soon - they had quite a Flash Flood August 2nd...

I know of 11 people that died in 1997 and there's been others over the years because of flash flooding. In the 97 incident the rain fell more than 10 miles away so those in the canyon were unaware of the pending flood approaching. Incredible place but also dangerous and deadly.

About three years ago we went on the Chief Tosie tour. We did the extended photography tour. They had the timing down to almost the second moving us from place to place to get the best lighting. I would post some pics if it weren't such a pain.

The people killed were in the Lower Canyon, and were warned - since it was still sunny where they were, they didn't take the warning.

No one was injured in the August 2nd flood, but I have no idea how fast the area recovered. Large portions of 89 were sand covered.

If you go, be sure to see Horseshoe Bend, a couple of miles south of Page on 89.

Now...when did the water become blue? Everytime we've been there it's been the color of the rock! :)

Anyone considering driving in this area? Highway 89 south of Page is closed indefintely due to a landslide that destroyed a large portion of the highway. Information can be found at Hwy 89 Closure

This was shot on May 13, 2011. We went back on June 10th, and it was a little less blue/green, but still clear water. It was a very wet spring...
