Any decent campgrounds in the UP of Michigan?

I am looking for ideas on places to stay and see in the UP. Full hookups not required but electricity would be a plus. Plan on going mid September this year.

Thanks

  • The U.P. is a big place. You have any idea where you plan to camp?

In the western end we like Ontonagon Township park on the north side of Ontonagon. It's right on the water and not too far from the Porcupine Mountains State Park. Fort Wilkins State Park up in Copper Harbor is nice.

Here's a nice private campground about 40 miles west of Marquette.

You can also click on the site below to find camper rated campgrounds throughout Michigan by city. Campground web sites are also available here.

Check out the Munising area where you'll find lots of waterfalls and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Just a bit further east is the small village of Grand Marais where you'll find an excellent campground called Woodland Park.

As I said. Just use the park review site above and scroll through the cities listed for local campgrounds and parks. I find it very helpful when checking out a new area.
  • We stayed at OB Fuller CG, which is a county-run park in Bark River just south of Escanaba. It's on Lake Michigan, so some of the sites have a clear lake view. It has W&E..no sewer. We paid $25.00 per night a year ago. Very clean and nice CG.
Actually, now that I think about it, they had a new section that was going in that will have FHU. It's probably finished by now.
