Anybody snowbirds in Hawaii?

I believe our President is often a Hawaii snowbird.

J&J, if you are interested in a time-share arrangement, Disney Vacation Club has a big place in Hawaii, out of the downtown area. You can use your points at any of their DVC properties and some other locations.

FWIW, retirement has been the most dynamic part of my (and DW) life. I would have never have thought that prior. So many options are out there, all you have to do is expand your mind a little.

We have a lot of Canadian friends that have invested into properties on the various Hawaii islands, especially Maui, where they spend up to 5 or 6 months of the year living. Typically they've bought in their early to mid fifties and some are now well in their late 60's early 70's still wintering and sometimes splitting winter and summer trips.

Others prefer to rent and typically use the vrbo.com website to find a suitable condo to rent for a month to several at a time, returning year after year. Most cite that they love the more temperate climate.

Hawaii never appealed at all to us, until our youngest daughter asked us to postpone our silver wedding anniversary trip planned since the day we wed to go to Australia RVing for 3 months. Her deal was if we did Hawaii that year so she could come (LOL), then she'd be able to come to Australia at a later date after finishing school. ahhh hmmm! Who's anniversary is it????

Seriously, we never would have believed how much we totally loved Maui and all the water sports and fun we had back in the mid 2000's, especially with it being such a small island. Look forward to exploring more in future years. Just so many places to go, people to see and things to do = ain't life grand :)

I would have to guess that there are quite a few Alaskans that do. Several times, while traveling the great white north (in summer) I heard locals that claimed that the #1 way to spend a permanent fund check was for airfare to Hawaii.

Back in the day, I met various young hippy types who camped on the beach for months at a time in Hawaii. That was in the 80s.

My sister rented an apartment for two weeeks online, walk to the beach. You could do that and try it out. Vrbo.com and the like.

News just had a piece on homeless in Hawaii. They the highest percentage of all the states. Chris

I did not see but one campground while I was in Hawaii and it looked more like a place homeless people hung tarps occasionally to get a break from the streets. We stayed with my brother on Oahu and in hotels on Kauai and the big island.

Yes, we have very good friends who live in Maine and winter in Hawaii. They are RVers, but not in the winter.
