Arizona RV Resorts

Hi! We are looking to spend a couple of months next winter in AZ and would appreciate advice on finding a resort that meets our needs. What we are looking for is a resort that has craft groups, specifically glass working, and is also near (preferably next to) a paved bike/hike trail.

We spent a few days in February at Val Vista RV resort in Mesa AZ and it has everything we want except for the bike trail. Also spent a week at Tra-Tel in Tucson which is next to a bike trail, but is small and does not have the crafts.

So if anyone can help us find our perfect resort, please let us know! We are an over-55 couple with no kids or pets and have a new fifth-wheel.

Thanks.
  • Study this link for the Tucson area and a 55-mile car-free urban route is mentioned. I'm not familiar with it though.

Voyager RV in Tucson has every kind of activity and class you may want and perhaps they have a biking group. Give them a call.

    Tucson Biking

I don't think you're going to find many paved trails in Arizona that begin at an RV park. You might have to load your bikes and drive somewhere to start or bike the roadways. Good luck.
  • Desert Trails RV in Tucson.
    Bike riding clubs, crafts, etc.
    A full page of activities.
    Great park
  • Ribower - No, I can't tell you about the bike paths. I rode my bike a bit, but it was on the roads looking at the grounds and other RVs. We spent a lot time off sightseeing and visiting friends.

On the special for newbies next winter, I thought it was a good deal, but I can't remember what the cost was, so I don't want to say. Because we were there for only 4 - 5 days each time, we were in the temp area which is next to the one of the fairways. When It would get too dark for the golfers, we'd take the lawn chairs over there and watch the sunsets.

The only negative is an airguard training base and sometimes their flight path is close to the resort. The one strange thing was they don't have any trash facilities. You have to bag your trash, put it out front twice a week and they pick it up. There's good wiFi in the temp area, but in the long term area you have to sign up for your own WiFi or use something like Verizon's MiFi. There are computers (and classes) in the main building. And there's root bear float night....

As I said, we'll go back. While we're not ones to stay someplace for a couple of months, I would like to stay a little longer and make better use of the facilities next time.

  • Thanks Bill. Can you tell me more about the bike path there?
  • We've stayed at the Phoenix El Mirage RV & Golf Resort. It has everything you're looking for plus a very nice pool area. We were there about two weeks ago and they had a special posted for next winter for first timers. Give them a call and ask about it.

It's not actually in Phoenix, but in El Mirage close to the new football / baseball stadium.

  • Both of these have the glass shops and places to ride but no bike paths per say.......... Voyager in Tucson, Palm Creek in Casa Grande. Best place I've seen for bike paths is Chula Vista RV in Chula Vista, CA.
