Would like to find a nice campground in the Asheville area. Plan to go in October. Looking for suggestions. Some of the places we've checked on are already full!

Just a bit to the west, near Waynesville, NC, there is Creekside RV Park and right next to it, Pride RV Park. You might want to consider one of these if they have availability.
