- Kentucky__JoExplorerWe loved Mama Gertie's. We prefer grassy sites on second level.

Another vote for Mama Gertie's...... The view from up top was breath taking! The upper sites were very level, I believe the others weren't too bad either. :B

X3 - garmpExplorer IILake Powhatan was great. What can be wrong with a COE park?
- NEOKExplorerStayed at Tap's in 2016. Nothing fancy and a few long term residents. I think quite a few veterans stay there for appointments at the near by VA hospital. It's convenient to most of the Ashville area.
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIOne more vote for Lake Powhatan! It's our favorite Asheville area campground. We particularly like the 20 full hookup sites in the mis-named Lakeside Loop (Hint: It's not on the side of the lake).
Lake Powhatan Recreation Area & Campground - huachucaExplorerAnother vote for Lake Powhatan. Be sure to visit the NC Arboretum which is next door (free but charge for parking).

I agree that Bear Creek is very nice. We were in a Wolf Pup camper (now sold) and thought that the camp was very nice. It was very clean and the bathrooms were spotless.
x3 good location - would stay there again - checked out other locations and for us they were too far out of town - BarabooBobExplorer IIII agree that Bear Creek is very nice. - vermilyeExplorerIf you can live without hookups ( but bathrooms with hot showers) check out the Davidson River Recreation Area. About 35 miles from Asheville.
- GulfcoastExplorerWe stay at a campground about an hour west of Asheville, close to the Smoky Mountain National Park. The good part... a full hookup is $35 a night.
