We just visited there in September. Camped at South Llano River SP and Pedernales Falls SP. Went on a day trip to Inks Lake. All 3 were well worth it with scenery, hiking and swimming, plenty to keep you busy.
Fredricksburg was nice, my wife was happy with all the shopping there. Personally, I liked Junction better (close to S Llano River) because it wasn't as touristy...and they had a great BBQ place (Lum's I think was the name).
