Beach camping on Lake Michigan

I'm looking for a nice family campground on Lake Michigan. Somewhere between Michigan City, IN and Holland, MI. Preferably on the southern end of that stretch.
I'm not looking to camp on the sand but it would be nice to not have to walk across a highway to get from the campsite to the beach. I've found a few campgrounds that are on the other side of the highway or are a 1 mile or more walk to the beach.
We will be there some time around the end of July. We're a family of four with a TC so we don't need anything fancy or huge.
Thanks for all suggestions.

  • Not that Warren Dunes and Van Buren State Parks aren't nice, it's that the CG is about a mile or a lot more walking distance from the beach and that's something he said he did not want. Warren Dunes CG is also on the other side of Red Arrow Highway from the beach. So that's the 2nd strike.

Could be for health or exhaustive reasons or maybe having smaller children with or maybe just the time and distance involved that's required to walk that far and both ways. He didn't specify.
  • Check out Warren dunes state park. Also, we ko beach in bridgeman. Van Buren state park in south haven.
  • Holland SP Beach unit is just off the beach itself but only 100-200 yards from the beach and as said on your northern limit.

However, just 20 miles farther north is Grand Haven SP and your RV site is right on the beach but you are not parked on sand as there's concrete and just behind your RV is actual beach/beach sand and/or the lake. A couple hundred feet away from most any campsite across the wide campground beach is the lake itself and the 1/4 mile long very wide public pier with 2 large lighthouses on it. Also the wide very popular "Connector Park" boardwalk going thru pristene park after park going to downtown right along the wide Grand River with restrooms, dozens of backed bench seats, food/ice cream/snacks/views/sgips/pleasure boats/playgrounds etc along the way while walking the .7 miles from your RV to a fantastic clean downtown and its so many attractions and all are free. You can ride your bikes or skateboards on the boardwalk also and leashed controlled dogs are welcome too.

Check it out on Google maps:

What you seek is really found from Holland SP and going north along Lake Michigan. 8 state parks I can think of quickly in just a 120 mile distance going north from Holland.
  • Holland has 2 state parks. 1 on the beach and the other about 1/4 mile inland. Exactly what you are seeking except it is on the North side of your area.
