There's a lot of twisty road between Escalante and the areas mentioned as alternates. We're doing a multi-week Utah trip later this year and will spend about 5 nights in Escalante. I don't recall which option my wife choose for that stay.
Regarding some of the alternates mentioned:
Kanab RV Corral - about half the sites are practically in the main road. We gave up in April after 1 night. Between the road noise and noise from the hotel being constructed on the north edge of the CG, there was nothing relaxing about being in that park.
Jacob Lake - Kaibab Camper Village - About 4 years ago when we stayed the electricity at the pedestal kept dropping into the 103V range and would trip our surge protector.
Kodachrome Basin SP - Neat park off the beaten path near Bryce. There are a number of FHU sites in there, but get reserved quickly.
I'm really looking forward to driving the Burr Trail, I've had locals tell me it is one of their favorite scenic adventures.
