Dan,
Thanks loads ... that Lightning interface cable is just the ticket. You've been a great help cuz this will be my first adventure into the Apple world ... I've steadfastly been a died-in-the-wool Microsoft fan up to now.
My whole RV is a hotspot whenever I turn on my "Verizon Broadband" service for RV trips, as I can use the rooftop cellular band antenna and 12 volt cellular band amplifier inside the RV to feed my laptop for Internet or boosted phone calls out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere. HOWEVER, this service is capped at 5 GB per month - as would a special Verizon plan for the iPad most likely be - which is not enough data per month for much streaming of Netflix movies when boondocking. FWIW, I'm thinking about scrapping my Verizon Broadband service altogether and replacing it with Millenicom's unlimited data broadband service, which in fact still uses (via contract) the Verizon cellular system.
Hence, my curiosity about storing some movies in the iPad, but playing them back through a larger RV screen if I don't go the Netflix/Millenicom route for streaming of movies.
What I may do is buy the iPad configured for Verizon 3G/4G just in case, but not turn it on when I buy the iPad ... and just stick with use of the RV hotspot setup for Internet access through the laptop or iPad (in it's WiFi mode) when on RV trips.
Kind of confusing I guess ... but what I'm trying to do is cover both bases of either movies stored on the iPad or movies over Netflix from the mobile hotspot in the RV. I don't want to have to rely at all on WiFi from RV campgrounds, fast food places, etc.. Self-containment in all aspects is the name of the game for a true boondocking RV.
