Best West Coast RV Campground

I have recently retired and am looking for a particular campground on the American River or similar site. I would love a woodsy campground, with hookups, and near head of a river or near waterfalls. Any suggestions?

Consider Canyon CREEK (Vista resorts)just west of Winters ca. On Putah creek , just below Lake Berryessa. In a canyon, close to water, woodsy, nice, clean, secure place. Private. It is on the west side of the valley, though, away from the American river, but there are not many , if any, on the American, except for Ponderosa by Coloma, which to me is not a great place for retirees due to transients that go tubing, kayaking, etc.
  • We stayed at a state park near the Folsom Reservoir which was nothing to write home about but riding the bike trail was the destination. It is at the uphill end of the trail so you'll have a climb (pretty good ad the end) heading back. That trail is really nice. I discovered it when on a work trip. I had a road bike so I was riding it daily. One of the best paved trails around.

X2, Oregon and Northern Calif have too many attractions to list. You could dedicate an entire forum to that topic.

  • There's one just across the river from Sutter's Mill. It's right on the river, but about 25' above the riverbank.

There are multiple paths down to the river, and you can hear it night.

Only problem is that this time of year, it's hotter up there than even Riverside! Or even Palmdale, where I live.
